Bobby sock girls or bobby socks, were girls who wore short socks with their oxfords and saddle shoes, originally as part of a school uniform, but then if caught on. Thus creating the classic bobby sock style.
But anyways, bobby socks were worn by girls from a young age until they traded them in for stockings once they got old enough, such as age 16. Like in the Popular 1950s song, "Bobby Sox to Stockings" sung by Frankie Avalon in 1959.
